Today, on my usual lunch break birding adventure, I drove around Government Hill as well as the area around Valley of the Moon Park with my eyes on the trees, looking for Grosbeaks, and other winter birds. I was about to head back to the office when a last minute turn down 20th avenue turned out to be a great idea. I saw a few birds land in a tall Cottonwood tree and quickly got out of my car with my
binoculars in hand. I was pleasently surprised to see Bohemian Waxwings! They flew off, so I parked my car and headed out on foot to track them down. It didn't take long. There must have been 50-75 birds feeding on berries in the afternoon sun. It was a very crisp day and my fingers could only stand about 15 minutes exposed to the elements, but I managed to shoot quite a few Waxwings before I headed back to the office. These birds were not on my list yet so what a treat!
