I didn't get out birding at all this weekend, it was snowy and blowy and not much fun to go outside. So I kept my binoculars and camera handy on the kitchen table while frequenting the feeder stations from the windows. Both days I saw, Common Raven, Black-billed Magpie, Steller's Jay, Black-capped
Chickadee, Downy Woodpecker, Red-breasted Nuthatch and today, to me delight, I saw a few Dark-eyed Junco's hanging around. I haven't seen once since fall, so they were a welcome sight. There are still a few winter birds that I hope to see still. They include: Grouse, Owls, Northern Shrike, Crossbills, and any uncommon rarities that may grace my pathway with their presence. Here's hoping.
Friday, during my lunch hour, I decided to head to Spenard area. I had checked ebird.com and noticed several sightings off some birds I had not seen yet, so I decided to try it out. Turning onto W. Spenard from Minnesota, I saw a medium flock of smallish birds flying west. I got very excited and decided to try to hunt them down. Success! After crusing down a residential street, I saw a large flock of Bohemian Waxwings as well as European Starlings. I stayed my full hour taking all the shots I could. It was a lot of fun and I hope to see them again.
